This year spring took us all by surprise- arriving into the UK in the form of red weather warnings, snow storms and lots and lots of sniffly noses. The eagerly anticipated warmth of the new season was put on hold as a thick layer of white, powdery snow covered us here in Scotland.
With grumbles of ‘is winter not over yet?’ rising up from the crowds, we were keen to place a focus on the many things to look forward to this springtime! On Monday 5th March, we welcomed the start of National Fragrance Week, a week-long celebration of all things scented and wonderful. And although Fragrance Week might not have been an event marked in everyone’s calendar, it certainly gave us something to think about in the Essence of Harris factory.
According to Fragrance Foundation UK, there is a ‘complex psychology’ which surrounds our sense of smell, and the ways in which it impacts our thoughts and feelings. Simply lighting a candle and putting your feet up after a long day can instantly impact your mood; acting as a release from the fast-paced, hectic reality of everyday life. Scents can tap into our emotions in a way that few other things can, and smelling a certain fragrance can remind us of home, a particular person, or even a memory which we had stored in the far corners of our minds. The ‘emotional’ element of candle-making is so important, and it is something which drives us to create new and innovative products, in the hope that we can continue to spread a little ‘candle calm’ to as many people as possible.
And with Mother’s Day just around the corner, what better way to say ‘Thank you’ than by giving the gift of calm! Sit back, relax and enjoy the Essence of Harris this Mothering Sunday.
