For those of you who have never visited our island home, you will find the Isle of Harris off Scotland’s rugged west coast- a stretch of land surrounded, and shaped, by the wild Atlantic Ocean. Our lives as islanders are connected to the sea; through the creation of jobs and opportunities, to the abundance of wildlife that live below the waves, and the freedom the sea gives us to stay anchored to life beyond the Hebrides. Its beauty, power and importance will never be dampened, and to celebrate its meaning to us, we have decided to focus on our waters for the month of June.

This month, we will be adding a ‘tipping’ section to our checkout so, if you would like to, you can donate to the RNLI, a charity which saves lives at sea around the coasts of the UK. Volunteers make up 95% of the organisation, and like many charities, the RNLI have lost out from the cancellation or postponement of fundraisers due to the COVID-19 outbreak. We will, therefore, match every donation on our website and the total sum will be donated to the RNLI at the end of the month. Meaning if you donate £1, we will donate £1 as well- acting as a little boost for an organisation and it's volunteers keeping our coastlines safe.

Sometimes, we like to think of the journey an Essence of Harris parcel makes, from our factory in Tarbert to homes across the world. Those parcels that are picked up by our local courier make their way across The Minch on a CalMac ferry (and are often accompanied by bow-riding common dolphins!) to continue their journey to you, wherever you may be in the world. And it is this sense of connection to you all that makes the seas that surround our island home so special to us.
